A Klamath County sheriff's deputy has been fired after wrecking a patrol car while off duty and being charged with drunken driving.
Sheriff Tim Evinger says Deputy Lance Waldren wasn't supposed to drive the car except while on the job. He says Waldren was hired in September and was on probationary status.
The Oregon State Police say Waldren crashed on Highway 140 about a mile east of the Bly Mountain summit. Police say he lost control and hit several trees. They say his blood-alcohol content was .21, nearly three times the legal limit of .08.
Waldren, 41, is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of an intoxicant and criminal mischief. He is free on bail.
