Alcohol Related Deaths on the Rise in 2004 in Oregon

DUI crashes and fatalities in Oregon dropped dramatically in the 1980s and 1990s before mostly leveling off since about 2000, said David House, a spokesman for the state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services branch.

Alcohol remains a factor in 35 percent of all fatalities in Oregon, House said. Speed and not wearing seat belts are the other major contributors.
